The more likely a user is to interact with a post, based on the algorithm’s predictors, the more likely it is to appear on a user’s feed.

On the other hand, Explore ranks content from accounts that the user does not already follow. These posts are queued up from signals of posts that a user has already liked. Once it figures out what posts the user might be interested in, it ranks them using the same signals as the main feed. In Explore the content also has to clear a set of guidelines that is unique to content recommendations, so some content that would be suitable for Instagram Feeds might not be suitable for the Explore Feed.
